MTU-Inform reports a successful completion of testing Motorola cable modems. Introduction and launching into operation is planned in September, 2002.
Nowadays the design of "home networks" using cable models is one of the most promising. This technology will provide a high-speed Internet access to MTU-Inform customers (up to 10 Mbps) based on the existing cable TV network of the company. Following its multi-service network development strategy, MTU-Inform has already built up a technical background necessary to offer such advanced multimedia services as "video-on-request" or "content-on request."
Thus, the widest range of high-speed customer Internet access technologies (ATM/Frame Relay, radio access, HomePNA, cable modems) is now at the MTU-Inform disposal. Broadband access services using HomePNA will be available for sites equipped with standard telephone layouts. Application of cable modem technology is planned for sites with cable TV networks.
Centralized system control will be performed by the cable modem head station (ÑMTS) at local distribution nodes. Ìîtîrola DSR1000 modems will be installed at the head station, and Com21 modems capable of duplex data transfer via cable TV networks will be installed in residential apartments. Cost of each device for an end-user will not exceed $120-150. |
